The Alderney Week Church Service at St. Anne’s started with a wonderful concert by the Alderney Blowers.

And in the afternoon Victoria Street was transformed into a Continental street market, which was officially opened with great dance routines by those delightful KFA girls. More entertainment still with live music by the Alderney Island Band and Rawcuz Crowzz, Alderney’s alternative Rock ‘n blues originals band which is making a name for itself in the Bailiwick.

Meanwhile, in the Memorial Gardens: Plenty of agonising moments for proud parents whose little darlings were competing for the much coveted “Little Miss and Master Alderney”, “Terrific Toddler”, “Holiday Prince and Holiday Princess” and “Best Fancy Dress” titles, sashes, tiaras and prizes. As always, compere Ellis Downes managed to put even the shyest of candidates at ease while the judges had the onerous task of picking the winners and making a quick exit.

Little Miss Alderney 2009 is 6-year old Niamh Kelleher.

Little Master Alderney is 9-year old Harry Craig.

Terrific Toddler is 3-year old Holly Jenkins and little Joseph Dereham . Little Holiday Princess, for the second consecutive year is Daisy Livesey from London. Little Holiday Prince comes from Guernsey but alas, we’ve lost his details. So if you know his name, please email info@alderneyweek.net

This popular event was sponsored by Collenette Jones.

And the Puppet show, sponsored by Robert and Susan McDowell,  had its world premiere of “Carnival Queen”: an exciting adventure written by Richard Cox who was anxious to point out that any resemblance to any prominent Bailiwick residents is pure coincidence. The show was produced and performed by Lois FitzGerald and her team of puppeteers in the Alderney Cinema.

Evening:

“Abba” Sing-along, drive-in movie on the Butes, sponsored by Hilary Bentley

This time it was the best ever Abba Movie and you probably can guess which one. Needless to say, Alderney’s only outdoor cinema was fully booked and it seems, though some were out of tune, everybody knew the songs.
